Your path to becoming a commercial pilot

There are many ways to become a commercial pilot. Bruce Hartwig Flying School has approval to conduct both the CASA integrated flight training syllabus, AVI50215 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane) and AVI50415 Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating). The most common method of obtaining your qualifications is through the AVI50215 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane).

The actual steps and timing are shown below, with the costs of each phase shown separately. For domestic students interested in utilising VET Student Loans, please contact the School to discuss your individual circumstances and eligibility.

Funding Options

Private Funding

You can fund the School courses privately by a number of options:

  • Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG).  This involves paying at the completion of each lesson.  This option is available for PPL training only.
  • Lump sum.  You can deposit funds with the School and draw down as you progress through the course.  Re-drawing of unused funds is allowed.
  • Semester payments.  Payment of semesters in advance for private funding of courses.

Government Assisted (VET Student Loans)

A Federal Government VET Student Loans scheme is available to eligible students.  The scheme is very similar to HECS for the university sector, and involves repayments when an income threshold is reached.

If you wish to discuss your eligibility, please give us a call.

Bank Loan (Deferred Bank Loan)

A number of banks offer deferred loans, allowing interest to accrue and be paid in the future.  Contact your bank to see if this type of funding is available.
